While we were filming yesterday around Ceredigion, we came across the Church of the Sacred Heart. In 1944, 1,500 Italian POW’s arrived at POW Camp 70 in Henllan, near Newcastle Emlyn. The church was created by Italian POW’s, inside one of the plasterboard cabins at the camp. All the frescos were painted by the 21 year old POW, Mario Ferlito, and even though Mario created the paint by using vegetables and fruits, the frescos remain intact to this day. It’s an incredible story and it was a privilege to spend such an inspiring morning at the church.
